Now that we know exactly when players will be able to get their hands on Overwatch 2, as part of the upcoming closed beta tests, Blizzard has shared more details about how Overwatch 2 will be implemented into the next season of the Overwatch League, as part of a new Community Update video.

It's noted that the new maps, Colosseo, New Queen Street, Midtown, and Circuit Royal, will all be playable when the league returns, as will the new Hero, Sojourn. Likewise, it's also been made clear that Assault will not be included, and will instead be replaced by the new game mode Push, of which two of the new maps are designed for.

To this end, the map pool for the upcoming season will be:

  • Control: Ilios, Lijiang Tower, and Oasis
  • Hybrid: Eichenwalde, King's Row, and Midtown
  • Escort: Circuit Royal, Dorado, Gibraltar, and Route 66
  • Push: New Queen Street, and Colosseo

Otherwise, it was mentioned that game updates will take place between each tournament cycle, meaning every tournament will be played on one version of the game.

The Overwatch League is set to return on May 5. You can check out the first week of matches here.
