The FIA Gran Turismo Championship returned last weekend for a new season that will take the best drivers of PS4's Gran Turismo Sport around the globe. With former champions, Igor Fraga (now competing in the FIA Formula 3 Championship for Charouz Racing System) and Mikail Hizal out of the competition, the first World Tour of the season 2020, Sydney, was open to other names.
50 drivers from 18 countries, coming from last year's World Finals, were competing in two different championships: the Nations Cup representing only themselves and their countries, and the Manufacturer Series, gathered in teams of three defending a participating brand.
On Saturday, team BMW - formed by Coque López (Spain), Nicolás Rubilar (Chile) and Randall Haywood (US), was dominant all over the circuit, scoring two victories out of two races and the first place in the rankings. Angel Inostroza (Chile), Tristan Bayless (US) and Mathew Simmons (Australia), representing Porsche, finished in third and second place in respective rounds for a second place in the overall classification, with team Lexus, with Kanata Kawakami (Japan), Andrew Brooks (Canada) and Baptiste Beauvois (France), in third place.
Drivers went back to the PS4 driving wheels on Sunday to prove their individual talent on Nations Cup finals. The second best of the group A on Semi-finals two days before, Japanese driver Takuma Miyazono was the first man crossing the finish line in the solo tournament, followed by the Australian Cody Nikola Latkovski and Jonathan Wong from Taiwan.
This is just the first World Tour for this FIA Gran Turismo Championship which will go on until next fall. Take a look at all the results and videos here.
