Global Esports Federation eyes the West Midlands as the UK's global esports hub

The Global Esports Federation has signed a 10-year agreement that will see the West Midlands and Birmingham positioned as the UK's global hub for esports. This deal will aim to drive growth of esports for the country, and will see the city joining a network of other global hubs, including ones based in Brazil, China, Japan, the Middle-East, America, and more.

This also comes a while after Birmingham was chosen to be the host city for the inaugural Commonwealth Esports Championship and Commonwealth Esports Forum when it takes place this August.

As for what the 10-year deal means for the region, we can expect it to become a host for the Global Esports Tour from 2023 through 2026, and this also allows the area to bid for the rights to host the Global Esports Games in 2027/28.

"We're fortunate to already have huge gaming names like Sega Hardlight and Codemasters on our doorstep all contributing to the West Midlands' growing status as an esports hub," said Andy Street, the Mayor of the West Midlands. "Now we're taking the next step by partnering with the Global Esports Federation to drive investment and create high-quality, state-of-the-art jobs in this incredibly dynamic sector. These are momentous times for the West Midlands, and I cannot wait to see this sector continue to thrive."
