Esports tournament and event organiser Gfinity has announced the launch of the Gfinity FIFA 18 US Spring Cup, which is an official qualifier in the FIFA 18 Global Series, with places in the playoffs at stake for the winners of the PS4 and Xbox One competitions.

What's more is that the competition is free to enter and exclusive to players in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, with the finals being held on May 12 and 13 in an as-of-yet-unannounced venue. The single-elimination tournaments for both platforms started last Sunday and run until Sunday April 29, happening every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday in that window. After this date the eight players with the most 'G Points' will be invited to the live finals, where a $30,000 USD prize pool will be available.

"We couldn't be more excited to be partnering with EA Sports for our maiden event in the United States," said Neville Upton, CEO of Gfinity. "The US has massively embraced both football and FIFA over the past few years and we hope to see the winners of the Gfinity Spring Cup go all the way at the FIFA eWorld Cup 2018."

"We are excited to be welcoming the Gfinity Spring Cup into the EA Sports FIFA 18 Global Series," added Brent Koning, FIFA Competitive Gaming Commissioner. "As we continue to engage millions of FIFA players in the community, and attract viewers from all around the world, this year will be truly special as we continue on the Road to the FIFA eWorld Cup 2018."

If you need reminding, Saudi Arabian player Falcon Msdosary recently booked himself into the FIFA eWorld Cup finals with a win at the FUT Champions Cup in Manchester. Do you think that this new US event can be good too?
