Facebook targets streamers with new pilot program

Facebook has announced a new content creator pilot program that's looking to more firmly establish the social media network's esports and streaming presence, rivalling the likes of Twitch and YouTube.

The so-called Gaming Creator Pilot Program looks to incentivise content makers with improved streaming quality (an issue that has plagued the platform in the past), with streamers able to broadcast in 1080p/60fps. Another major part of the plan is to give creatives access to monetisation tools, which Facebook hopes will draw more people to their platform. If they can execute their plan, which includes building communities around key games and players, raising discoverability, improved monetisation, and widespread access to a broad spectrum of players, then they'll be well on their way to becoming a mainstay in this competitive space.
