The supercar manufacturer Lamborghini has revealed that it has launched an esports team, one that aims to compete in various simulation racing events going forward. As it stands, the team consists of three drivers, Jordan Sherratt, Gianfranco Giglioli and Giorgio Simonini, with the trio looking to compete in the upcoming GT World Challenge Esports Sprint Series Europe, and also the 2022 Intercontinental GT Challenge Esports Endurance Championship.

In the announcement press release, it's noted that the three individuals have begun training for the upcoming events, and that the trio are being supported by a team principal, driver coach, and various engineers to ensure the best level of success in the scene.

"Sim racing is an important platform in today's motorsport scene. Video games were born to allow those who didn't have opportunities for real-life racing to impersonate the professional drivers," said Giorgio Sanna, Automobili Lamborghini's head of motorsport. Now, after several decades of development in the industry, simulated racing is getting closer and closer to its real-life counterpart and now has nothing to envy from professional motorsport."

Sanna continued, "Moreover, sim racing is an additional tool for us to develop some of the fundamental aspects of real racing, such as car setups and software applications that will play an important role in the future of our brand."
