Report: Esports valued at over $1 billion USD by 2020

HQ

It's no secret that there's a lot of money in esports - with the prize pool for Dota 2's The International this year sitting at around the $25 million USD mark to break records, for example - and now Business Matters magazine has reported on Newzoo data saying that the industry is set to surpass $1 billion by 2020.

The streaming esports audience currently sits at around 200 million, but in two years Newzoo predicts this to rise to 300 million and above, which should help the industry's growth. Newzoo's data does go into detail on how the industry has changed, but looking ahead this growth in audience (which is mostly comprised of what they call "male millenials") means more opportunities for sponsors and investment, which is the key thing.

What do you want to see from esports in two years?
